ProLangvo is a language-learning app that helps you capture vocabulary from what you read and
watch. This policy explains what data the ProLangvo web app and the ProLangvo browser
extension collect, why, and how it is used. It applies to prolangvo.ch and the
ProLangvo Chrome extension.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name,
email address, and Google account identifier. We use these to create and secure your account.
Learning data. The words, phrases, sentences, and sources you save, plus
your review history and progress. This is the content of the product and is tied to your account.
Caption text you choose to work with. When you use the extension on
YouTube or Netflix, it reads the on-screen captions of the video you are watching so it can
show glosses and let you capture words. Caption text is processed only for the video you are
actively viewing, and only the items you capture are saved to your account.
Pages you import. When you choose "Open transcript in ProLangvo" from the
right-click menu, the current page's address (URL) — and, for YouTube/Netflix, the video's
title — is sent to your account so that page can be imported as a reading source. This
happens only when you click that menu item.
Sign-in session. The extension reads your ProLangvo login token from the
app so it can act on your behalf; it is held in the browser's session storage and cleared
when the browser closes.
Settings. Your interface language, learning language, and panel
preferences. Some of these are stored locally in your browser.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your personal data.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not run third-party ad trackers.
The reader overlay activates automatically only on YouTube and Netflix. On other sites the
extension does nothing unless you explicitly use the right-click "Open transcript in
ProLangvo" action.
We do not track your general browsing history — only the specific pages you choose to import.
How the extension uses permissions
Access to YouTube and Netflix pages — to read captions and show the
ProLangvo reader overlay while you watch.
Access to prolangvo.ch — to sign you in and send the words you capture to
your account.
Storage — to hold your sign-in session (session storage) and remember your
settings and panel state (local storage), only in your own browser.
Context menus — to add the right-click "Open transcript in ProLangvo"
action.
Where your data lives
Learning data and account information are stored on ProLangvo's own servers (a PostgreSQL
database on infrastructure we operate). Settings may also be cached in your browser's local
storage. We use OpenAI's API to generate word explanations and translations; only the text
needed for that enrichment is sent, and it is not used to identify you.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account
and associated data at any time by emailing us at the address below, and we will remove it.
Children
ProLangvo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify
you in the app.
